Sapphire & Christopher | Cedar Creek Lodges
The Couple
Christopher and Sapphire met at work. What began as an unexpected friendship slowly grew into something more. Long nights spent playing PlayStation and board games eventually led to their first date: a (very) long, romantic walk through the Brisbane Botanical Gardens.

The Proposal
Christopher always dreamed of planning a surprise proposal, but Sapphire describes herself as “the most Type A person you’ll ever meet”, and in six years, he had never quite managed to catch her off guard.
They had a pre-planned date night to see the latest Marvel movie, making it the least expected moment. Just as they were about to leave, Christopher said, “Hey babe, you forgot something.” When Sapphire turned around, he was down on one knee with a ring! Their dog barked excitedly in the background, and Sapphire is fairly certain her first words were, “WTF!”

The Wedding Day
Held at Cedar Creek Lodges on their 7th anniversary, April 14th 2024, Sapphire & Christopher’s wedding theme was inspired entirely by the venue itself—a lush rainforest setting with a fairy light–lit amphitheatre.
“Once the venue was locked in, so was our theme. I instantly knew I wanted a whimsical, autumnal fairytale forest, and the venue did half the work for us. It was perfect.”
When it came to favourite details, both Sapphire and Christopher had their own highlights. For Sapphire, it was the intricate table styling: rose quartz, pinecones, scented candles (they opted for their signature scent to be Tuscan Villa, to tie in with their dried oranges in the tablescape) and small wooden mushrooms that brought a sense of whimsy to the setting. For Chris, it was the larger elements that created the immersive “mystical forest” atmosphere: the wooden arbour, tree stumps, and abundant greenery.

The Table Styling
What drew you to Hueseeka for your wedding décor?
“I loved the colour variety in the candles. I had a mixed colour palette and needed a way to bring everything together on the tables. We chose Baked Clay, Chocolate, Heritage Rose, and Toffee pillar candles, which all tied back to the theme, bridal party outfits, invitations and décor.”

.
How many candles did you use throughout the wedding?
“Oh goodness, it was nearly 400 candles altogether! We used 2 pillar candles in glass for every 4 guests at our dinner tables, a lot of tealights in between, and the other candles were used throughout the ceremony, cocktail hour and other locations in the reception.”
.
What sparked your candle styling vision?
“I’d saved a photo on Pinterest years before we even got engaged—it had tree stumps covered in candles of varying heights. To recreate that look, we used pearl candle wax, tealights, and votives. These were lit from the ceremony through to the final dance, and once the sun went down, they really set the tone.”
.
Did you feel supported and confident in your decor choices when planning?
“Absolutely! I didn’t hire a stylist or coordinator, so I was figuring everything out on my own. I spent a lot of time researching, which eventually led me to Hueseeka. Once I found that you had all the candles I needed, I was sold. It was such an easy process! The team even helped me choose the best pillar sizes and the right tealight holder colours to match the candles.”
The Final Thoughts
Sapphire reflects on a few elements she would reconsider if planning her wedding again, particularly around floral choices.
“I would seriously consider using faux flowers instead of fresh. We focused mainly on greenery, with flowers only in my bouquet, the buttonholes and on the arbour so they would really stand out. Even my bridesmaids carried greenery bouquets.”
Looking back, Sapphire feels that choosing artificial florals would have offered greater value, allowing for more focal points and impactful “wow” moments throughout both the ceremony and reception. She also notes the added financial benefit: “Using fake flowers also would have saved us about $700, which was spent on preserving my bouquet,” she shares.
Sapphire and Christopher’s wedding was a beautiful reflection of their story: thoughtful, personal, and full of meaningful details. Set against the natural beauty of the rainforest, every element came together to create a day that felt both seamless and deeply intentional. “The candles were such a key part of our styling—they helped tie everything together and created exactly the warm, cohesive feel we were hoping for,” Sapphire reflects. From the soft glow of candlelight to the carefully chosen styling touches, their celebration is a reminder that it’s often the smallest details that leave the most lasting impression.
